A good pallet racking safety checklist will provide as much detail as possible on any flaws with the racking while also being clear and legible. This should include information on:
- The precise location of any fault or other concerns
- The specific item or area which is damaged
- The nature of the fault
- The recommended course of action
- Any other supporting comments
It may help to use a digital checklist documents and log changes on your phone or another device. This will ensure that the document is shared and available to everyone, and also removes the issue of unclear handwriting which could cause information to be misinterpreted. It will also enable the damage report to be sent to a repairs specialist, rather than needing to be scanned in.
Items that are commonly included in a pallet racking safety checklist include:
- Front and rear uprights
- Horizontal and diagonal bracing
- Front and rear baseplates
- Front and rear floor fixings
- Front and rear beams
- Level plates
- Front and rear safety locks
- Load notices
- Column guards
- Frame spacers
- Nuts & bolts

- Anti-collapse mesh
- Cradles and supports
While this list is just a guide, it highlights the depth a pallet racking safety checklist should go into! In essence, each individual component throughout the entire racking should be inspected on all sides, even if access is difficult.
Any unlisted element of your racking solution should also be on this checklist. While not all faults are equivalent, they are represent either an active risk or a signal of future problems.
