Pallet Shuttle Racking
Automation isn’t just confined to the factory environment any more: it’s made its way to the warehouse. Developments in wireless technology and mobile processing have seen a growth in autonomous vehicles in the storage environment, with guided shuttles increasingly helping personnel to transport, load and unload goods.
Pallet shuttle racking is the natural extension of this technology to pallet racking. Pallets are deposited onto a shuttle, which is mounted on support lanes in each channel. Using a Wifi-connected tablet, the operator then begins the load operation. The shuttle carries the pallet into the channel, and deposits it in the next available location. The shuttle then returns to the loading position ready for the next operation.
Because forklifts are not required to enter each channel to deposit pallets, pallet shuttle racking can be much more dense than other racking formats. A complex system of rails, supports and centralisers keeps the shuttle in position, while a number of safety features are built into the shuttle itself. A series of sensors, scanners and cameras allow the shuttle to deposit pallets with extreme care and precision, reducing damage and wastage.
The shuttles are extremely resilient, making them suitable for use in cold storage environments, and feature high capacity, long-life batteries. They require very little maintenance, are highly flexible and are easy to operate through a tablet-based interface. The shuttles can also be easily integrated with several major warehouse management systems (WMS) for a fully integrated warehouse automation solution.
